JOHN
J. SULLIVAN, LTC, USA, Retired
Colonel John Sullivan was born in Boston, Massachusetts,
17 December 1956 and was commissioned a Distinguished Military Graduate
and Second Lieutenant in Field Artillery through the ROTC program at Hofstra
University in June of 1979. After Graduation, Colonel Sullivan attended
the U.S. Army's Rotary Wing Aviators Course and graduated as an Attack
Helicopter Pilot. His assignments include: Section and Platoon Leader
positions in the B Troop, 1st Squadron, 17th Cavalry, 82nd Airborne Division,
Ft. Bragg, NC, 1980; Commander, A Troop, 5th Squadron, 17th Cavalry, Ft.
Hood, TX 1985; Asst. S3 and S1 in the 1st Battalion, 3rd Regiment, 2nd
Armored Division, Ft. Hood, TX, 1987; Headquarters and Headquarters Commander,
S1, Current Operations Officer and S3 in Flight Concepts Division, Ft.
Eustis, VA, 1988; Chief of Special Operations Aviation Branch, Special
Management Division, U.S. Army Personnel Command, Alexandria VA, 1993;
Professor of Military Science, Brigham Young University, Provo, UT, 1995;
Apache Longbow Systems Integrator, Aviation Division, Force Development,
Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations and Plans, United States
Army Staff, Pentagon, Washington, D.C., 1998.
In 1993, LTC Sullivan received a Masters of Arts in National
Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval College of Command and Staff,
RI. Professional Military Schools include: U.S. Army Force Development
Course, 1998; Naval Command and Staff College, 1993; AH-64 Pilot Qualification
Course, 1990; Armor Advance Course, 1983; U.S. Army Rotor Wing Qualification
and Attack Helicopter Course, 1980; Field Artillery Officer Basic Course
and Cannon Battery Qualification Course, 1979.
Colonel Sullivan participated in Combat Operations: "Urgent
Fury" Grenada, 1982.
Awards received include: Legion of Merit, Bronze Star,
Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC), Army
Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary
Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Valorous Unit
Award, Senior Aviator Wings, and Parachutist Badge.
Colonel Sullivan retired from active duty 1 September
2000 and is working for Northrop Grumman. He is married to the former
Lisa Marie Richan and they have three children: John Earle, James Owen,
and Peter Joseph. He and his wife, Lisa, are converts to the Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Colonel Sullivan's church service,
since joining the church, includes: 2nd Counselor in Stake Presidency,
Bishop, Stake High Counsel, High Priest Group Leader, Elders Quorum President,
Temple Worker, Young Men President, Scout Master and various teaching
assignments in Sunday School and Primary programs.
